This week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge is Say What You See.
This made me think of some of my Instagram posts where I compared a species common English name to a photo of the species and give it a checkmark when they match.
Rose-breasted ✔ Grosbeak ✔ (Pheucticus ludovicianus)

Beautiful! 🙂
Many years ago, i used to have Java Rice Birds as pets; this species reminds me of them a lot! 🙂
Thanks Tom. We used to get Evening Grosbeaks in the spring and fall but haven’t had any for a few years. The Rose-breasted Grosbeaks spend the summer with us.
A fantastic shot of a beautiful bird.
Thanks. I must admit, they’re one of my favourite species we get in the yard.
We’re just entering the time of year when my favorite bird, well one of them, the Great Egret/Snowy Egret, return to a few great nature spaces. I got some great shots of them yesterday before work.
I’ve only had two Great Egrets this spring, and they were flying over our yard when I was photographing some of the birds in the yard.
Ours show up in some amazing spaces, like our Palace of Fine Arts lake or at the Sutro Baths ruins at the ocean. I love photographing them. I’ll be out tomorrow evening hoping to get some worthy shots.
They breed around here but they’re not common. According to the distribution maps for Great Egrets they don’t get this far north let alone nest.
I suppose we lucked out! Come November at a lake not far from where I live, you can see groups of forty-fifty of them fishing. It’s a true sight to behold. At the same time we get lots of Brown Pelicans and Great Blue Herons.
