View From the Side

The new Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge is View From the Side.

I had a few ideas for the challenge including some of the motorsports I have photographed. Then I remembered this shot from the late 1970s. Originally shot in monochrome as I was shooting scrambling (now called Moto X) for the local newspaper.

In those days dirt bikes were basically the same. Now you have everything from 75 horsepower thumpers to over engineered KTMs and BMWs. I had a DR650 I used for the street, close to 90,000 miles on that single cylinder!

I had mostly road bikes for the streets. Usually lightly turned with upgraded brakes and suspension so they looked standard but weren’t.
