A Photo a Week Challenge: Traditions.

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Traditions.

I thought of a few traditions before thinking of one I have photographed over the past 20 years at various locations. The tradition of fireworks on Canada Day.

Canada Day fireworks on Monument Hill, Punnichy, Saskatchewan in 1999.

  1. I’ve never tried my hand at shooting fireworks, and I have to admit I wouldn’t even know how to start. Are these shot at high iso and high shutter speed? They look great.

    1. The first two are film shots using an Olympus OM2n. The Saskatchewan shot was Kodachrome 64, the Southampton, Ontario shot was Fujichrome Provia 100. The OM2n continued metering during exposure in aperture priority so I left it on auto and let the camera close the shutter once the meter said enough.

I do similar with digital, set the camera to base ISO, aperture priority and let the camera decide when to close the shutter.

  2. I tend to shoot AP as well, like 99% of the time :p
Thanks for the tips though, I’ll let you know how I fare if I decide to try my luck at shooting fireworks one day!
