Throwback Thursday

Red Deer Rut

Throwback Thursday travels back to Lyme Park, Cheshire, England in the mid 1990s.

A group of Red Deer hinds being watched over by a stag during the rut. A group of hinds held by a stag is known as a harem.

October Squares: Red Lines in the Sky

This is my contribution to day 31 of Becky’s October Squares: Lines photo challenge. The final day of the challenge so a sunset seemed appropriate.

A big thanks to Becky for another interesting and entertaining Squares challenge.

Red lines in the sky over Chantry Island and its lighthouse at sunset.

October Squares: Lines in the Snow

This is my contribution to day 30 of Becky’s October Squares: Lines photo challenge. This is the penultimate day. It’s been fun but I ran out of days with six lines and squares left over.

I’m not sure what small mammal left all the tracks in the snow but I’m pretty sure that it should have been hibernating.

A Photo a Week Challenge

Some Autumn Colour

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Open Topic.

I chose this photo because it sums up this autumn for me. This has been a good autumn for colour but with weather or locations that have hindered me getting shots.

This tree was almost glowing in the half light of dawn on the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline. Unfortunately it’s location is such that it was impossible to photograph the whole tree without including an ugly, distracting background.

So once the sun came up I put the telephoto zoom on the camera and started isolating sections of colour where I could control the background.

Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Cover

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Cover.

Having had my first cover shot published in the early 1980s I still try to shoot vertical and horizontal versions of a photo at times. Editors are often looking for vertical images for use on covers.

A sunrise over Colpoy’s Bay and the Niagara Escarpment from late summer. This is a horizontal version I used in a blog post when it was taken.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: The End of Summer.

A vertical version from that morning.
