Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Cover

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Cover.

Having had my first cover shot published in the early 1980s I still try to shoot vertical and horizontal versions of a photo at times. Editors are often looking for vertical images for use on covers.

A sunrise over Colpoy’s Bay and the Niagara Escarpment from late summer. This is a horizontal version I used in a blog post when it was taken.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: The End of Summer.

A vertical version from that morning.

These are both stunning, David. However I think the vertical shot is the more dramatic. It not only accentuates the texture of the sky, but the overall effect is that the sky is almost spilling out of the frame toward you. And I feel as though I could almost touch the rocks. But they are both fantastic shots, as always. 🙂

I think I prefer the vertical but I noticed after I published that the magnification is different between the shots so they’re not really a matched pair.

Thanks Sue. Annoyingly I probably have a matched pair as I use an L bracket on the camera allowing me to quickly swap between vertical and horizontal without moving the tripod.
