Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Flamboyant Red

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Flamboyant Red.

The prompt got me thinking about some of the various bird species with red in their common English names. Some have very little red plumage.

Then I thought about some of the red birds that don’t have red in their common English names. Such as the Northern Cardinal, you can’t get much more flamboyantly red.

  1. I love your Northern Cardinal, David. Such a gorgeous flamboyant shade of red, but
it does have red in its name, Cardinal is another word for red, and is derived from the red cassocks worn by Catholic Cardinals!
There you go another bit of useless information I picked up along the way! 🙂

    1. Thanks Sue. I knew Cardinal was red but went with the prompt. I seem to think that there’s a cardinal red watercolour paint. I also considered a male Purple Finch as they’re a raspberry red but they’re not as flamboyant.
