A contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Fan Of… #54 challenge and a ramble about some of the Olympus cameras I have used over the years.
A trio of my Olympus OM system cameras, fom left to right, my OM1 from 1976, my first OM2N from 1981 and my OM4T from 1998. I gave the photo an old fashioned film look with Snapseed as it seemed appropriate.
An early photo taken with the OM1 in late 1976 or early in 1977. Trees in the snow, Hatherton, Cheshire. I had previously taken a very similar shot with my Zenit E camera but something happened to the negatives so I had to reshoot the scene the next time there was snow.
One of the last shots I took using the OM system. Canada Day fireworks on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario on Canada Day 2007. Taken with a telephoto lens from nearly a mile away.
44 years of Olympus cameras. The back row consists of the three OM system cameras in the first photo. The front row is, on the left, my E-410 from 2007 and on the right my OM-D E-M10 Mark II from last year. The photo was given a Polaroid type border with Snapseed.
The fourth shot taken with the Olympus E-410. The Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton at sunrise. The range light at the mouth of the Saugeen River is also visible in the Canada Day fireworks photo above.
The sixth shot taken with the OM-D E-M10 Mark II. I was still on crutches after my accident and had only been out of rehab for about a week. One of the few photos taken with the kit lens that came with the camera.

Well, I was a Nikon person until 6 years ago, but I love my little Olympuses
I’ve used various brands and formats over the years but there always seemed to be an Olympus in the mix.
OK!
AWesome collection of cameras across the ages, David 👏 Can’t believe my current Canon is over 10 years old and still going strong 😁
Thanks. I had photos in calendars taken with the E-410 which was then 12 years old last year. The camera was the newest piece of equipment I used for the shots, I’d had the telephoto 23 years and it was used when I got it.
Wow 😲
Actually, it occurred to me that I should do a Fan Of… about the lens as it’s got a lot of photos to pick from including landscapes and close ups.
Go for it!
Will do. With over two decades worth of photos it’s going to be a challenge picking a small selection.
I have the same problem with only one decades worth of pictures 😂
My archives go back around 45 years. I’m currently working on a vanishing point post for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge and one of the shots is from 1981.
[…] variety of subjects. The idea for this post came from exchanging comments with Jez after my recent Fan Of… Olympus Cameras […]
I was with canon but 3 months ago i discover the olympus pen epl 8 .what can i say…incredible little camera 🥰
Thanks. After an accident a year ago left me with restricted movement in the right shoulder and arm I put together a kit of small, manual focus prime lenses to go with the OM-D E-M10 MKii for when I want to travel light.
I am sorry to hear that, but ,in my opinion olympus is excelent for travel…🥰
It’s been the size and some of the lenses that have kept me using them for so long.
To be honest for my olympus i have only my 14-42 kit lens wich are verry good,i am thinking to switch all my canon gear to olympus, but in need to know more about their lenses.
I can’t really help. My lenses are either the old 4/3 high and super high grade lenses or various manual focus primes I have collected over the years. I long ago realised that editors want interesting shots over technically perfect shots so I’m as likely to be shooting a 40 year old prime lens and a modern auto focus zoom lens these days.
