Weekend Challenge: What Is It?

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge: What Is It?

I had a few ideas for the challenge and quickly settled on one although I can’t really explain why I picked an autumn subject in spring.

Weekend Challenge: What is it.

This one’s quite easy.

I suspect that it’s only easy if you’re familiar with the fungi. If you have only seen illustrations you may expect white spots rather than the shriveled pieces of the white veil on the cap when it emerges from the ground.

Another new thing learned! Except for fairy tale drawings and Noddy cartoons, I’ve never seen this type of toadstool. I always thought the spots were actual dots.

You have to wonder how many illustrators have actually seen one and how many are simply going on what they have seen illustrated in books.

I wouldn’t have guessed either, but thst’s the fun of it!
I thought it was a red flannel with cotton wool Oh, how wrong was I? 😀 Thank you, David.

Your first was the hardest. I thought it was a close up of a piece of limestone, probably because there’s limestone everywhere around here.
