Welcome to the first in what will probably be a regular feature, Saturday Bird.
This is a male Yellow-headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus) photographed in central Saskatchewan, Canada in the summer. Their breeding habitat is Cattail marshes where they nest in colonies, often sharing the habitat with Red-winged Blackbirds.
It is one of the New World blackbirds and is not related to the Eurasian Blackbird.

Very striking with that yellow head.
They’re one of the species that I miss from my time in Saskatchewan. They seemed to have more ‘character’ than the more common Red-winged Blackbirds.
Great capture
Thank you. I was trying to show the bird in some fairly typical breeding habitat.
Hope this does became a feature, this is lovely
Thanks Becky. I’ve got one started for this Saturday although I have changed the species because of the perch it’s on.
