This is my day 5 contribution to Becky’s July Squares on the theme of Perspective.
The shadows of the various trees are a bit strange in this photo. The shadows cast by the row of trees seem to be pointing in a different direction to the shadow cast by the solitary tree in the field. That’s because the field is in effect a miniature valley. The shadows of the row of trees are on one slope and the shadow of the solitary tree is on the other slope.

Interesting scene, David!
Thanks Sue. I normally crop it panoramic to get rid of some of the farmland so a square crop seems really odd to me.
A square crop suits some subjects, but the dynamic is wrong with this one!
I have to say I much prefer the panoramic version but the square crop does show the way the shadows change direction more obviously.
Squares showing a different perspective – we don’t always have to like it!
As long as it works for the prompt/challenge.
which it does 😀
PS I like it!
Square or not, it’s a striking scene. For me, long shadows like this always induce feelings of nostalgia – though for what I’m never sure.
Thanks Tish. Long shadows are associated with the beginning and end of the day so maybe the nostalgia is because you’re associating them with the end of the day.
Yes, you’re probably right .
and they are such long shadows too!
I think the long shadows are due in part to the various slopes. I seem to think that it was mid afternoon when I took the photos.
The colors are beautiful!
Thank you.
What a beautiful image, David!
Thanks Amy. It’s a small section of the landscape isolated with a telephoto lens.
