This is my contribution to the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Negative Space prompt.
The prompt started me thinking about some of the photos of plants and flowers I have taken using various fast portrait lenses this summer.
That started me thinking about my use of negative space in some of my bird photography.

Lovely colors in the first image of the beautiful flower and the Hummingbird is amazing. Great photos that fit the theme very well.
Thank you.
What a treat to view these remarkable photos! All are beautifully captured. Excellent for this topic!
Thanks Amy. I decided to stick with birds and flowers rather than a wider range of subjects.
Very beautiful examples David – not surprised in the least! The hummingbird is particularly wonderful
Thanks Tina. The hummingbird was taken two years ago when I was doing a 52 week photo project and playing around with negative space.
Love ‘em!
Thanks Sue.
Just beautiful! Hard to choose a favorite! (but maybe that top one 😊)
Thank you. The first photo was taken on a recent walk around the neighborhood.
Simply superb.
Thanks John.
Beautiful examples.
Thank you.
My favourite is the hummingbird – very bold use of negative space, but it works perfectly. The background has lots of movement too.
Thanks Susan. I keep meaning to do more bird photography using negative space but have had chance with the pandemic.
Wonderful use of background bokeh to create negative space and accentuate the subject in each photo. ❤ I especially love the colourful coneflower.
Thanks Olga. I thought it was an interesting and fun challenge.
It certainly was! 🙂
Hi – so much to enjoyed here but my fav was the Blackbird in a Saskatchewan marsh. It had a wonderful poised and proud vibe
Thank you. You’re the first person to pick the Blackbird as a favourite. The Hummingbird seems to be the most popular closely followed by the Coneflower.
Well I like the bird so much I actually thought about asking to buy a print of it… so what does that say.?
The Blackbird photo dates back to the 1990s but it’s still a favourite which is why I included it.
wow – that was a while ago – 🙂
Such beautiful pictures David, hard to pick a favorite.
Thanks Sylvia. There doesn’t seem to be an obvious favourite from the comments.
