Up the Flagpole

My Travel Tuesday blog post this week is a visit to the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton at sunrise and is also a contribution to Becky’s January Squares on the theme of Up.

A group of Canada Geese rising Up off the water in front of the giant Canadian flag Up the flagpole at the bottom of High Street, Southampton, Ontario.

Travel Tuesday: Up the Flagpole

It was a small, quiet town when I lived there but it’s expanding at an alarming rate. As is Port Elgin to the south so at some point in the future you won’t know where one ends and the other starts.

You can blame the British in this case. Some British company owns and operates a nuclear power plant on the Lake Huron shoreline. Their expansion in the past decade or so has put property prices through the roof and developers are building on any bit of land they can get their hands on.

I hear a lot of British accents, mostly Scottish, when grocery shopping. I try to keep my mouth shut as my accent is so mixed up it just causes confusion with some Canadians and most Brits. I’ve been accused of being everything from Australian to German.

Thanks Jo. It actually got taken out of the sequence of posts after Cee posted a flag up a flagpole. So I decided to use it as a Travel Tuesday post. With two different forms of Up it seemed to good not to use somewhere.
