July Squares: Strange Perspective on Shadows

Strange Perspective on Shadows

Trees and their shadows on farmland at Bickerton Hill in southern Cheshire, England. Normally cropped to a panoramic format rather than a square.

A look back at some of my personal favorite square photos from previous months of squares. Some were popular, some not so popular at the time.

This was a post in Perspective Squares Month and is my day 21 contribution to Becky’s October Squares on the theme of Past Squares.

Thanks Becky. The panoramic crop was one of the most popular images on my portfolio web site before I shut it down. It’s been a long time favourite possibly because of the problems with getting any photos at the time. It was so windy on top of the sandstone ridge I was on that the tripod, camera and telephoto lens were vibrating.

The “wide” version was taken with a 300mm lens. When I tried to get a tighter composition with my 600mm it was vibrating too much to attempt a shot. So I went back to the 300mm and used teleconverters to tighten the framing.
