A Photo a Week Challenge: Water

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Water.

Having been living and photographing around water for decades I decided to go with a small selection of my favourites.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Light and Dark

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Light and Dark.

The prompt got me thinking about some of the nighttime photos from my film archives that I started digitising last winter.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Opening

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Opening.

A couple of hours after the challenge was posted I went for a walk around the neighborhood with a camera. Spring has arrived on the South Bruce Peninsula in the past week with lots of leaves opening on many of the local Maple trees.

As a result I decided to go with opening leaves as the theme for my contribution to the challenge.

The different colours almost make the opening leaves look like blossom.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Fleeting

I had a few ideas for the A Photo a Week Challenge: Fleeting but none of them really worked for me until I started thinking about some of the “grab shots” I remember taking over the years.

I remembered sitting in a garden shed I was using as a hide (blind) waiting for the resident European Robin to land on the telephoto lens I had set up. While waiting for the bird I noticed a pair of House Sparrows mating in the hedge. I swung the lens around and managed to get three photos before it was all over.

Some time later one of the shots of the mating House Sparrows was published in BBC Wildlife magazine. None of the photos of the European Robin on the lens have been published but I have been using a version as my avatar for years.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Summer Vacation 2020

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Summer Vacation 2020.

The prompt is about an ideal, dream vacation given the Covid-19 pandemic that makes vacation plans somewhat irrelevant at the moment. Which gave me the opportunity to look back and consider where I would like to return to with a digital camera.

Before the list of locations became too long I made sure only summer ones were on the list. This quickly made one location stand out, south central Saskatchewan.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Peaceful Place

This is my contribution to Nancy’s A Photo a Week Challenge: Peaceful Place.

One local location came to mind almost immediately when I thought about the prompt. A section of the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline that’s usually peaceful at sunrise.

A small selection of photos from August last year to January this year.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass

The prompt for the A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass was rather well timed for me. I had been photographing part cups of coffee and a variety of other glass objects a month or so ago. Then I thought about what some photographer’s refer to as glass.

A partially drunk cup of coffee. I used a gold reflector to bounce some of the light back onto the glass.
