Sometimes it’s just about the Water

It’s not always about the bird, sometimes the bird is just there to provide a focal point or a sense of scale to the ripples and reflections on the water.

On the Hunt for Joy: Count Chimneys

This is my contribution to Cee’s On the Hunt for Joy Challenge: Count Chimneys.

Over Christmas I started making digital versions of the slides in my archives. I had previously digitised around 1,500 key slides but there are about 15,000 in my archives. I am currently about halfway through the process.

So a selection of English chimneys photographed in the 1980s from my archives.

An interesting old stone chimney on the corner of Eastgate Street and Bridge Street in the historic centre of Chester, Cheshire.

Some chimneys in north London during a severe hailstorm. The “speckled” appearance of the storm clouds is falling hail.

Berford Lake at Dawn: WWE #13

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere #13 Photo Challenge.

This is Berford Lake on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada. Despite living quite close to the lake it’s not somewhere I visit very often. Access is via a small park which never seems to be in a good direction for photography in the blue and golden hours.

On the Hunt for Joy: Sit in the Sunshine

This is my contribution to Cee’s On the Hunt for Joy Challenge: Sit in the Sunshine.

One photo came to mind almost instantly when I read the prompt for week 4 of the challenge. After that it was simply a case of finding a couple more photos to go with it.

A Dunnock sitting in the sun in Hatherton, Cheshire, England. Its feathers are fluffed up because it’s sunbathing which is why it came to mind so quickly.

Lake Huron Shoreline at Dawn: WWE #12

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere: #12 Photo Challenge.

I have to admit that I had completely overlooked this photo. It was the eighth shot taken with my then new Olympus E-410. The fourth shot was used in a tourist guide to the area and I was approached by a camera magazine wanting to use the eleventh shot which I had posted online. I have no idea why I overlooked this shot until now.

On the Hunt for Joy: Jump for Joy

This is my contribution for week three of Cee’s On the Hunt for Joy: Jump for Joy photo challenge.

I was convinced that I had a photo of a Squirrel jumping but a quick search didn’t turn it up so I had to find an alternative.

Here’s a couple of birds in the process of jumping off the branches they’re on.

Ripples and Reflections

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere Photo Challenge #11.

I had been standing on the dock in Colpoy’s Bay photographing the sunrise when I turned around and saw the reflection of the tree being distorted by the ripples.
