Crofters Cottage Museum

This week Travel Tuesday is traveling back to the Isle of Skye at Easter in 1980.

This is an old, thatched crofters cottage that had been turned into a museum of crofting. It has since been expanded with more buildings and is now known as the Skye Museum of Island Life.

The Quiraing

Travel Tuesday is traveling back to Easter of 1980 when a small group of photography students traveled to the Isle of Skye instead of revising for final exams.

This is a section of the Quiraing a landslip on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The name Quiraing comes from Old Norse and means Round Fold.

Volcanic Skye landscape

Monochrome Monday travels back 40 years to Easter on the Isle of Skye in 1980 as I continue the exploration of my black and white negatives.

I have forgotten the name of this location, if I recall correctly it’s on the east coast of the island south of Staffin. There are lots of volcanic locations on Skye but a Google search didn’t come up with a name for this one.

Abandoned crofters cottage

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Decayed or Rusty.

When I read the prompt I thought of a favourite photo that would work well for the prompt. An abandoned crofters cottage on the Isle of Skye I photographed 40 years ago.

The problem was I only had a low quality digital version, a copy of a slide that was a copy of a print from the negative. I had gone through my negative files twice without finding the original negative. So I went through the files a third time, determined to find the negative which I eventually did.

Weekly Prompts: Sepia Crofters Cottage

Another contribution to the Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Sepia which is running throughout August.

This old crofters cottage was a museum of crofting when I was on the Isle of Skye in 1980. It’s another of those shots that would probably have been sepia toned if taken when the cottage was occupied.

Abandoned House

My contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Any Kind of House.

An abandoned crofters cottage at Elgol on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. I was one of four photography students who spent a week on the Isle of Skye at Easter rather than revising for exams.

This shot was taken on the only morning we had rain. Shortly before taking this shot I had been standing in a stream with the art schools newest large format camera on a tripod in the stream with me.

Abandoned crofters cottage.

Monochrome Monday is going back to 1980 when four photography students traveled to the Isle of Skye on the west coast of Scotland.

I added grain to the digital version to give it a more gritty feel. It shows an abandoned crofters cottage at Elgol with the mist and cloud shrouded Cuillin in the background across Loch Scavaig.
