Colourful April

This is my contribution to Amy’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Colourful April prompt.

I decided to look back at some of colourful April photos from my archives. One for each decade since the 1980s with as wide a variety of images as possible.

Friendly Friday: Something Good

This is my contribution to the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Something Good.

I drew a blank on this prompt at first before thinking about the way the natural world is carrying on as normal regardless of the humans around them. Spring migration continues as normal so I thought of some of the recently arrived or recently emerged from hibernation species in this part of Ontario.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Urban

This is my contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Urban.

My initial thought was that I don’t do urban before thinking of urban Red Foxes. At that point I started thinking about some of the flora and fauna I have photographed in urban areas.

A Hint of Spring

This week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge is A Hint of Spring.

Definitely a case of digging into the archives as our weather seems to be worse since the middle of February with no hint of a spring.

In this part of Ontario one of the first signs of spring is the arrival of the American Robins (Turdus migratorius) that will spend the summer with us. The males normally arrive first and fight one another establishing territories hoping to attract a mate when the females arrive.

I picked this shot because this recently arrived male looks like it’s spoiling for a fight with the camera. Taken on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario.

A Quick Snack

The Daily Post one word prompt is Partake.

An American Robin partaking of a quick snack on the Lake Huron shoreline this morning. I don’t know what it was eating but it ate five in quick succession.

spring feeding.

A grab shot. I had gone down to the lakeshore to checkout the ice conditions only to find this section of Lake Huron ice free.

I keep an old digital camera in the car along with a couple of telephotos from the 1980s. The 300mm I used dates back to the mid 1980s and has suffered over the decades. It has some fungus internally that I keep in check by baking the lens in the oven occasionally.
