Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Grin

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Photo Challenge: Grin.

Now you may be wondering why a section of a mural featuring two grumpy looking men has to do with the grin challenge. I’ve always found the mural a bit grim, it could do with someone grinning.

The mural is on the side of the laundromat in Southampton, Ontario, Canada. I think it depicts some of the history of the town. Maybe the grumpy looking men were two of the founders of the town. But surely, if you’re going to produce a mural to highlight some of the history of the town you could have made the portraits smile or grin.

Oh, and the name of the laundromat with these grumpy images on, Sparkles Laundromat.

A recent dawn

A recent dawn and another outing for my lightweight, back to basics camera kit.

Since I last wrote about it I have made a small change to the kit. I have swapped the 7artisans 35mm lens for a Meike 25mm f/1.8 lens. I was finding the jump from 12mm to 35mm a little large and the jump from 35mm to 55mm a little small. The 25mm sits more centrally between the 12mm and 55mm.

The reason I went with a 35mm lens rather than 25mm was because I found a 35mm a nice focal length for the way I “see” when out and about shooting personal work. So I  plan on using the 35mm when out with just a lens on the camera and no camera bag.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Focus

This is my contribution to the Tuesday Photo Challenge – Focus.

As I have mentioned in some previous posts, I have been making some changes to the equipment I carry when out and about shooting personal work. I have put together a set of three small, manual focus primes and a small mirrorless camera body.

The kit fits in a small camera bag which weighs next to nothing compared to my normal shoulder bag. It’s a lot easier on the shoulder I injured in early spring.

I’m really enjoying getting back to basics with a kit similar to the gear I used as a photography student all those years ago.

Three shots of flowers on the South Bruce Peninsula taken when testing each of the manual focus primes that make up my back to basics kit.

The first was taken with the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 lens wide open.

The second shot is taken with a Samyang 12mm f/2 lens wide open.

The third shot was taken with the 7artisans 55mm f/1.4 lens wide open.

Silent Sunday: 1st September 2019

A couple of recent early mornings.

A couple of outings down to the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline for the sunrise. The first two outings for my recently assembled, lightweight, back to basics camera kit comprising of a small mirrorless camera body and three manual focus primes.

The first outing for the kit saw it and me caught in a thunderstorm and heavy rain shortly after the photo was taken. A 60 second exposure as it was a dark morning.

An outing for my lightweight camera kit.

The following morning saw a lot less cloud and an absence of thunder rumbling and heavy rain.
