This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Show Us Your Christmas.
The photos start several weeks before Christmas with a fire truck near the start of the Wiarton Santa Claus parade on the South Bruce Peninsula early in December.
Some of the Christmas lights in a window at home with out of focus lights in the room beyond the window.
Some Christmas baking, Viennese Shortcakes made with my mother’s recipe from the 1970s.
Christmas lights on Berford Street in Wiarton on the South Bruce Peninsula. 44 minutes before sunrise and a short detour when I was heading down to the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline for the sunrise.

As a follow-up to my recent A Photo a Week Challenge: Christmas Memories post Nancy that runs the challenge asked for the recipe for the Viennese Shortcakes.
Viennese Shortcakes (also known as Viennese Whirls according to Google).
- 1 cup of all purpose flour
- 1 cup of butter (or margarine)
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and half of the flour and beat well. Add the rest of the flour and beat again.
Put the mixture into a piping bag and pipe a swirl into a paper muffin liner leaving a hollow in the center.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
When cool dust with icing sugar and fill the center with jam.

I came up with two very different photos for this challenge.
A childhood Christmas memory, Viennese Shortcakes according to my mother’s recipe. Also known as Viennese Whirls according to Google. These were made yesterday following my mother’s recipe.
A recent Christmas memory, Christmas day morning two years ago. The snow got heavier in the afternoon.
