Cee's B & W Photo Challenge

Head or Facial Features

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Heads or Facial Features.

One of the first photos that came to mind when I read the prompt was the colourful eyes of a Horse Fly. When I was checking out the Horse Fly portrait in my image library I scrolled past portraits of some Bison and thought the size disparity would make an interesting post.

Monochrome Monday

Portrait of a bull Bison.

Monochrome Monday is going back to Saskatchewan, Canada in the late 1990s.

I was friendly with a Bison rancher and could drive out to the herd using the ranch pickup truck as the animals were used to seeing the vehicle. I could set up a tripod in the back of the pickup and photograph the Bison at close range.

Bull Bison portrait.

A bull Bison poses for its portrait. The way its eye is mostly closed makes me think it’s having an afternoon nap.

One from the archives taken on film in the 1990s. Photographed from the back of a pickup truck on a Bison ranch at Kelliher, Saskatchewan, Canada.
