Monochrome Monday: 25th October 2021

Storm clouds over Colpoy’s Bay on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario shortly after sunrise.

After a surprisingly brief but bright burst of colour shortly before sunrise the colour faded when the sun disappeared behind the storm clouds.

An outing for my Sony back to basics kit, taken with the TTArtisan 17mm lens.

Riding Up A Mountain

Motorcycles in fog on their way to the Dragon Motorcycle Rally in Snowdonia, North Wales. A photo from the very early 1980s when I was a field tester for Ilford XP1, a new type of black and white film.

A look back at some of my personal favorite square photos from previous months of squares. Some were popular, some not so popular at the time.

This was a post in Up Squares Month and is my day 23 contribution to Becky’s October Squares on the theme of Past Squares.

Monochrome Monday: 18th October 2021

Storm clouds over Wiarton Marina and the Niagara Escarpment on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario recently.

I had a camera bag in the car when I noticed the cloud over the bay and made a short detour to Bluewater Park in the town of Wiarton. With little colour in the scene I was shooting with the intention of doing monochrome conversions.

Past Squares #10

July Squares: Trees #27

Trees #27

The South Bank of the River Thames with a mist shrouded Houses of Parliament across the river in the background on a damp Sunday morning.

Photographed in London, England in the very early 1980s when I was a field tester for a new type of black and white film, Ilford XP1.

A look back at some of my personal favorite square photos from previous months of squares. Some were popular, some not so popular at the time.

Monochrome Monday: 4th October 2021

Bluewater Park in the town of Wiarton on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario in fog shortly after sunrise yesterday.

I had gone down to Colpoy’s Bay in light, patchy mist but fog descended before the sun came up so I started shooting with the intention of doing monochrome conversions.

I increased the image contrast when doing the monochrome conversion but didn’t want to go too far as I wanted to show the fog.

Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge: Simply Black

One of my back to basics set-ups. A base model mirrorless camera and a small, mechanical, manual focus prime lens.

A set-up like this allows me to shoot digital the same way I used to shoot film, what I call getting back to basics. This takes me back to the film kit I used as a photography student all those years ago.

As the camera, lens and my custom sling strap are all black I thought a monochrome conversion would make a contribution to the Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge: Simply Black theme. I added some film grain when doing the monochrome conversion.
