Medieval Buildings

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Buildings of the past prompt.

I decided to go to my archives for a selection of medieval buildings I have photographed in parts of England.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Narrow

The Phoenix Tower, a medieval tower built on the corner of the Roman wall in the city of Chester, Cheshire.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Tower

Church of St Editha, Church Eaton, Staffordshire. The tower was converted to a spire later.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Abandoned

The ruins of Beeston Castle in southern Cheshire. Rebuilt during the English Civil War and partially demolished after it was captured.

Throwback Thursday: 7th May 2020

St Mary’s Church, Acton near Nantwich in southern Cheshire. The original tower collapsed in a storm and was shortened when it was rebuilt.

A Local Eyesore

A contribution to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: All about buildings: Commercial buildings or store fronts.

This is the former Foodland grocery store in the town of Wiarton on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.

Photographed last autumn when it had been standing empty for a couple of years. It’s an even bigger eyesore at the moment as the parking lot is currently being used for storage by the construction crew ripping up the highway through the town.

One Word Sunday

Interior

This is my contribution to the One Word Sunday prompt Interior.

This is part of a ward in a former small pox hospital in South East England. I documented the buildings prior to the site being cleared for redevelopment.

Abandoned crofters cottage

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Decayed or Rusty.

When I read the prompt I thought of a favourite photo that would work well for the prompt. An abandoned crofters cottage on the Isle of Skye I photographed 40 years ago.

The problem was I only had a low quality digital version, a copy of a slide that was a copy of a print from the negative. I had gone through my negative files twice without finding the original negative. So I went through the files a third time, determined to find the negative which I eventually did.

Derelict Doors and Drawers

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Doors and Drawers.

This is part of a ward in a former small pox hospital. I documented the buildings before they were demolished and the site cleared to make way for new medical research establishments.

After doing the monochrome conversion I added some film grain, a vignette and some blurring to the corners before adding a film type border to make the shot look as old as the building.

Cee’s B & W Photo Challenge: Indoor Walkways, Hallways, Elevators

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Indoor Walkways, Hallways, Elevators.

This is a hallway, or maybe it’s an indoor walkway. It’s part of a former small pox hospital that I documented before the buildings were demolished. I seem to recall that there were walkways connecting some of the wards but I’m not sure if this is one of them.
