Perspective on a Cup of Coffee

This is my day 2 contribution to Becky’s July Squares: Perspective.

An almost abstract view of a part drunk cup of coffee.

Friendly Friday: Covid Discoveries

This is my contribution to the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Covid Discoveries.

With a lot of people being stuck at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic it’s an opportunity to discover overlooked or long forgotten things.

This post is a bit of a cheat as part of it involves me digitising my film archives which I started before the lockdown and social distancing. However, I have discovered a few things in my film archives as the social isolation has allowed me to continue digitising film originals.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: A River Runs Through It

I discovered that this favourite photo of the Houses of Parliament and the River Thames from the South Bank was taken in the very early 1980s when I was one of the field testers of Ilford XP1 prior to its release.

Wordless Wednesday: 15th April 2020

I picked up a handful of Pine cones on a walk around the neighborhood and have rediscovered table top photography.

Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Sea Creatures

I discovered this slide of a gull roost on Hurleston Reservoir near Nantwich at sunset. Taken at least 23 years ago, it sat overlooked in my slide archives until recently and is now a favourite photo.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass

I rediscovered simple lighting and reflectors when doing tabletop photography. A partially drunk cup of coffee with a small diffused light and a gold reflector.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass

The prompt for the A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass was rather well timed for me. I had been photographing part cups of coffee and a variety of other glass objects a month or so ago. Then I thought about what some photographer’s refer to as glass.

A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass

A partially drunk cup of coffee. I used a gold reflector to bounce some of the light back onto the glass.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids

Liquid turning into solid at sunrise as waves form icicles on the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids

A Common Swift feeding on insects over the surface of Hurleston Reservoir near Nantwich, Cheshire, England. This is a young bird by the brown body. It was one of around a dozen birds feeding over the water surface.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids

Half a cup of coffee. This is the third version of half a cup of coffee I have used in blog posts using two different cups of coffee and three different lenses. This version was photographed with the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 lens.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Liquids

A Ring-billed Gull feeding in the surf on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario, Canada. The Ring-billed Gulls will often feed in the surf, either standing on shoreline or patrolling up and down watching for anything edible that gets washed up.

One Word Sunday

Fraction

I had 3/4 of an idea for the One Word Sunday: Fraction prompt so went with 4/3 ratio photos.

One Word Sunday: Fraction

6/10 of a Pine cone photographed with a 25mm CCTV lens adapted to a mirrorless camera.

Close up of a Sunflower.

9/20 of a Sunflower.

One Word Sunday: Fraction

13/20 of a cup of coffee. This version was photographed with a 25mm CCTV lens adapted to a mirrorless camera.

Pine Siskin juvenile.

11/20 of a juvenile Pine Siskin. I thought of this fraction when I was captioning the Pine cone fraction.

Friendly Friday: Coffee Conversations

This is my contribution to the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Coffee Conversations although it’s not really about the prompt as there’s no conversations involved.

You may wonder what a window with Outlaw Brew Co. on it has to do with coffee. The window is in Southampton, Ontario and in the summer it’s normally open with coffee being sold to tourists through it. Quite what that has to do with a micro brewery named Outlaw I’m not sure. Just to confuse things even more, when I lived in Southampton the building was a bar known as ‘the bucket’ or ‘the bucket of blood’ by locals. I no longer remember the real name of the bar.

Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Coffee Conversations

Just so there’s some actual coffee in this post, a low key study of my third cup of the morning. I used a gold reflector to bounce some warm light onto the glass.
