One Word Sunday

Vertiginous

This is my contribution to Debbie’s One Word Sunday prompt Vertiginous.

I had a couple of ideas for the prompt before remembering this photo. Taken approximately 30 years ago, I’m looking over a sandstone escarpment down on the Cheshire plain below. The slope is so steep it used to form the defensive edge of an Iron Age hill fort.

January Squares: Beam of Sunlight

For day 11 of Becky’s January Squares: Light photo challenge I went with sunlight.

A beam of sunlight breaking through storm clouds and illuminating a hillside at Loch Arkaig, Scotland.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Hill

This is my contribution to the Tuesday Photo Challenge – Hill.

There was an obvious choice for me, Bickerton Hill, Cheshire, England.

Bickerton Hill is a sandstone escarpment forming part of the Sandstone Trail and the southern end of the Mid Cheshire Ridge.

The hill has a long history with an Iron Age hill fort on top of part of it and other evidence of settlement in the Neolithic or Bronze Age periods.

Autumn colour on part of the hillside.
