Past Squares #25

April Squares: Bright Leaf

Bright Leaf

A red Maple leaf on Ivy leaves.

A look back at some of my personal favorite square photos from previous months of squares. Some were popular, some not so popular at the time.

This was a post in Bright Squares Month and is my day 25 contribution to Becky’s October Squares on the theme of Past Squares.

One Subject Three (or Four) Ways

This week Tina gives us the prompt One Photo Two Ways for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

As is sometimes the case I had a few ideas for the challenge, none of which I was really happy with.

Then I thought about my current grab bag, the camera bag I grab most often when heading out to do personal work.

For various reasons I put together a small, lightweight kit a couple of years ago. It consists of a small mirrorless camera and three small, manual focus prime lenses, a wide angle, a standard and a telephoto.

This has become my go to kit, partly because it’s a way of getting back to basics. It’s the way I shot film as a student at art school all those years ago.

Lens-Artists: One Subject, Three Ways

On arriving at the Government Dock in the village of Colpoy’s Bay on the South Bruce Peninsula I put the wide angle lens on the camera for a view of the bay at dawn.

Six Word Saturday: Blue Above and Below the Orange

After a while I swapped the wide angle for the standard lens for a tighter view of the mouth of the bay and White Cloud Island on the horizon. I walked out to the end of the dock for a slightly different perspective.

2021: Ripples on Colpoy's Bay at Sunrise

Before the sun appeared on the horizon I swapped the standard lens for the telephoto for an even tighter view of the mouth of the bay. The narrower field of view allowed me to emphasise the foreground ripples.

Once the sun was above the horizon I used the telephoto lens to isolate interesting groups of ripples.

A fog shrouded High Street, Southampton, Ontario early last Saturday morning.

I did a selective colour treatment of the glow from the traffic lights in the fog.

One Word Sunday: Urban

A spider web of utility wires on a foggy back alley in Southampton, Ontario yesterday morning.

I was planning on taking photos of the High Street shrouded in fog for Debbie’s One Word Sunday: Urban prompt until I spotted the utility pole.
