CFFC: Doors, Drawers and Cabinets Knobs and Handles

This is my contribution to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Doors, Drawers and Cabinets Knobs and Handles.

I had noticed the light from a table lamp catching these brass handles on a cabinet some time ago so this challenge was the incentive I needed to take a photo of them.

I kept the composition minimalist and the photo low key. I de-saturated the image a little and then added a vignette.

Friendly Friday: Coffee Conversations

This is my contribution to the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Coffee Conversations although it’s not really about the prompt as there’s no conversations involved.

You may wonder what a window with Outlaw Brew Co. on it has to do with coffee. The window is in Southampton, Ontario and in the summer it’s normally open with coffee being sold to tourists through it. Quite what that has to do with a micro brewery named Outlaw I’m not sure. Just to confuse things even more, when I lived in Southampton the building was a bar known as ‘the bucket’ or ‘the bucket of blood’ by locals. I no longer remember the real name of the bar.

Just so there’s some actual coffee in this post, a low key study of my third cup of the morning. I used a gold reflector to bounce some warm light onto the glass.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Dreamy

This is my contribution to the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Dreamy.

I had a few ideas for the challenge before thinking of some of my recent walks testing various lenses adapted to a mirrorless camera. One lens in particular produces images with swirly backgrounds and vignetting in the corners giving some photos a dreamlike quality.

The lens in question is a 25mm f/1.4 CCTV lens. I picked a shot of an Orange Daylily taken with the lens on my most recent test and edited the shot in a variety of ways using Snapseed.

A mildly edited version with increased saturation and the vignetting in the corners darkened a little.

A high key version with simulated film grain.

A low key version with a heavy vignette and a grungy look.

Autumn Seed Heads

Taken on an afternoon walk last week during a rare sunny spell. It’s the same plant I photographed and posted about a week ago.

Since spotting the remains of the plant I have been paying attention to it if my walk takes me past it. This time there was some interesting light on the plant illuminating the seed heads.
