An Autumn Maple in the studio photographed with a fast, portrait lens.
An autumn Maple leaf in the studio.
One light behind and below the leaf to provide backlighting and rim lighting. A second light on the right providing some modelling.

Two autumn leaves photographed on my table top studio. The start of one of my winter projects.
My Macro Monday post this week is detail of an autumn Maple leaf.
At first the pattern reminded me of stained glass windows and then a Roman mosaic. Now for some reason it reminds me of some form of reptile.
This is my contribution to Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge: Let’s hear it for the leaves prompt.
Most of the leaves in this part of Ontario have been off the trees for a while now. However, a few weeks ago I started picking up interesting leaves with the intention of doing some table top studio photos using them. The fallen leaves have been buried under snow a few times since I started collecting them.

This week Amy has given us the prompt A Day of My Week for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.
I had the idea of putting together a small camera kit and using it for everything I photographed on Sunday.
I put the kit together on Saturday evening only to change my mind and put a different kit together early Sunday morning before heading down to the local bay for the sunrise.
The kit I used was a small mirrorless Sony and four manual focus prime lenses. I decided that the post would be one photo taken with each of the lenses during the day.
Photo 1. Cloud over Colpoy’s Bay on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario shortly before sunrise. Taken with the 14mm ultra wide angle lens.
Photo 2. Shortly after sunrise I took close-ups of lichen on some of the boulders along the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline. Taken with the 35mm standard lens.
Photo 3. After sunrise I moved around the bay to check out the cloud and autumn colour on the Niagara Escarpment. Golden light on a section of the Niagara Escarpment taken with the 85mm telephoto lens.
Photo 4. In the afternoon I went out with the kit to photograph autumn colour. Maple leaves on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario with the 8mm fisheye lens.
