Flower Portraits

A selection of flower photos taken with a fast, portrait lens for shallow depth-of-field and using negative space.

Photographed on a walk on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario yesterday afternoon. I added a slight vignette to the photos when editing.

This is my contribution to Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge: Focus on Flowers prompt.

Rest

One Word Sunday: Rest

A windblown Great Blue Heron resting on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario shortly after sunrise.

I spent over an hour with the bird, slowly working my way closer. After a while it was pretty much ignoring me and was still there when I headed home for some breakfast.

This is my contribution to Debbie’s One Word Sunday: Rest prompt.

Walks On the South Bruce Peninsula

This week Amy has given us the theme Keep Walking for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

I thought the theme was ideal for a look back at some of the photos from my walks around parts of the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario this year.

2021: Orange Daylilies

Two Orange Daylilies in front of a large limestone boulder. I used a fast portrait lens to isolate the flowers and the limestone boulder to provide some negative space.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: In the Trees

I parked the car and walked along a back road when I saw the rising sun shining through mist over scrubland.

Lens-Artists: You Pick It!

One of my experiments with intentional camera movement on a walk around the neighborhood last spring.

2021: Displaying at Sunrise

A male Red-winged Blackbird displaying shortly after sunrise. Another walk along a back road on my way home from the sunrise at the local bay.

Negative Space Orange Daylilies

2021: Orange Daylilies

A portrait of two Orange Daylilies in front of a large limestone boulder.

I thought the background was different and used negative space to emphasize it. Another test of the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 lens for photographing flowers and plants.

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge: Orange.

Fading Summer Colours

Another quick post of a recent photo written using the Wi-Fi at a park in the local town as we have no internet connection again.

A couple of fading Coneflowers taken on a recent walk around the neighborhood.
