An Interesting Perspective

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: An Interesting Perspective prompt.

I thought about some of the long exposure photos I have taken down at the local bay since it was opened after being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

346 seconds at Dawn

A 346 second exposure of clouds moving across Colpoy’s Bay at dawn.

Taken using a 7 stop neutral density filter to get the length of exposure needed. I used the Live Time setting on an Olympus camera although I calculated the exposure rather than relying on the Live Time image in the viewfinder.

Back to Basics

A rather long and rambling post about two visits to the local bay for the sunrise last weekend.

On Saturday morning I took a large camera bag with a trio of large, autofocus weather sealed zoom lenses. On Sunday morning I took a small camera bag with a trio of small, manual focus prime lenses.

The trio of small, manual focus prime lenses is the back to basics kit I put together after an accident last year left me with restricted movement in my right shoulder and a weaker right arm. My arm and shoulder is now as good as it’s going to get and most of the time I could be carrying and using the big, autofocus zoom lenses.

Except, on Sunday morning I realised that I preferred using my back to basics kit. I don’t miss the convenience of being able to zoom a lens to get the composition I want. I prefer the simplicity of manually focusing and setting the aperture on the lens.

A group of backlit Maple leaves

Some backlit Maple leaves and another of my tests using various lenses to photograph flowers and plants. This group of leaves were a regular test subject in the spring and summer.

In this case I was using the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 lens wide open on an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II.

Clouds moving across Colpoy’s Bay

I went down to Colpoy’s Bay 45 minutes before sunrise yesterday morning.

This is a 3 minute exposure of the clouds moving across Colpoy’s Bay at dawn. Taken using the Live Composite setting on an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II. The base exposure was 1 second with a further 179 exposures of 1 second composited in the camera to record the movement of the clouds.

I suppose a Live Composite image is similar to a Collage which is the Cosmic Photo Challenge prompt this week.
