Four Of A Kind #3

Four motorcycles in fog on their way to the Dragon Motorcycle Rally in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Taken in the very early 1980s when I was field testing Ilford XP1 prior to its release.

This is my day 24 contribution to Becky’s October Squares challenge on the theme of Kind.

One Of A Kind

This is my day 1 contribution to Becky’s October Squares on the theme of Kind.

It’s not the European Robin standing on my 600mm lens that is the one of a kind. It’s the one of a kind mix of camera equipment it’s standing on.

The lens is an EBC Fujinon 600mm f/5.6 that has been converted to an Olympus OM mount. The Olympus OM2n had been taped up to reduce reflections and help keep the rain out. There’s friction tape on the grip to help with using the camera when wearing gloves.

Out of shot, the lens is being supported by a home made gimbal tripod head. Built before any of the commercial gimbal tripod heads were available.

Where?

This is my contribution to One Word Sunday: Where?

On reading the prompt I thought of some of the bird species that search for food as they’re flying.

CFFC: Sense of Sight

This is my contribution to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Sense of Seeing.

I started thinking about some of the species that use their sense of sight to eat. That got me thinking about some of the bird species that can see and catch fish. Here are two very different birds carrying very different fish they had caught in Lake Huron.

Cee's Fun Foto Challenge: Sense of Seeing

A Caspian Tern with a small fish in its bill flies along the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario, Canada. I’m guessing the fish is for the birds mate or young as it hadn’t swallowed it.

An Osprey carries a recently caught White Sucker towards the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario, Canada. It’s under attack from two Herring Gulls and will have to drop the fish in a few seconds.

Monochrome Monday: 16th March 2020

Monochrome Monday travels back to the very early 1980s as I continue digitising my slide and negative archives.

This photo of motorcycles in fog was taken in Snowdonia, North Wales as the riders were on their way to the Dragon Motorcycle Rally. A photo taken on Ilford XP1 when I was field testing it. I have posted a different version of the photo previously, this version is the whole negative rather than from a cropped print.

Early One Sunday Morning

Monochrome Monday travels back to the very early 1980s. I was one of the field testers of a new black and white film, Ilford XP1. It differed from conventional black and white film in that it could be processed in the same processing line as colour negative film.

I went for a walk around central London early one Sunday morning as part of my testing of the film. This is the Houses of Parliament from the South Bank of the River Thames with some light mist over the river.
