Mating Common Pond Skaters.

I had put in a garden pond specifically for wildlife and the photographic opportunities it would provide. One of the first species to colonise the pond was the Common Pond Skater (Gerris lacustris). I photographed this mating pair as they rested on the edge of a water lily leaf.

I know that the title sounds like part of a recipe being prepared in a cauldron to put a spell on someone but the latest Wits End Weekly Photo Challenge is Eyes so the title was to hard to resist.

Throwback Thursday travels back to Cheshire, England in the late 1980s. The pond was constructed for wildlife and within a year Common Frogs were spawning in it and there was a variety of insects living on or in the water. Some of the Common Frogs got so used to people they would stay on the surface of the pond rather than diving under the water.
