Friendly Friday: Art Unexpected

When I read the Friendly Friday Photo Challenge: Art Unexpected prompt I had several ideas for a post. On Friday evening I was selecting photos for the idea I was going with.

Luckily I hadn’t started editing those photos because on Saturday morning I changed my plans for this post. Then, when the first photo l picked for the new version was square I decided that all the photos should be square.

A selection of photos of unexpected art in nature.

Weekly Prompts: Surface

This is my contribution to the Weekly Prompts: Surface challenge.

I started thinking about some of the water surfaces on the various lake’s and bay’s I have photographed over the years.

I decided to go with a small selection of photos from a section of the Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Sometimes it’s about the pattern on the water

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere #15 Photo Challenge and another one of my photos that was taken for the pattern of the ripples on the water.

I probably didn’t need any more photos of an immature Grey Heron on this tree stump in the water at Hurleston Reservoir, southern Cheshire. By the mid 1990s I already had a selection when this shot was taken. I suspect that it was the pattern of the ripples that I was photographing.

Sometimes it’s just about the Water

It’s not always about the bird, sometimes the bird is just there to provide a focal point or a sense of scale to the ripples and reflections on the water.

Ripples and Reflections

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere Photo Challenge #11.

I had been standing on the dock in Colpoy’s Bay photographing the sunrise when I turned around and saw the reflection of the tree being distorted by the ripples.
