Fan Of… Interesting Clouds

This is a contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Fan Of… photo challenge.

This week Jez went with “Add some Clouds” and I had used some interesting clouds in a different photo challenge so my Fan Of… was an easy choice.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Cropping the Shot

This is my contribution to the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Cropping the Shot although I must admit that I ignored the instructions in the prompt and went my own way.

That’s because I very rarely crop. I was taught in art school to get it right in camera and it’s still something I practice today. Having spent decades shooting colour transparency film for clients and editors there was no option to crop, what ever was in the shot stayed in the shot.

However, modern digital equipment does have one huge advantage for me. Zoom lenses are finally good enough to use. I never found a zoom good enough to use alongside my prime lenses in the film era which resulted in me carrying between six and eight primes.

Using zoom lenses allows me to crop precisely in camera and shoot multiple versions of a scene. So here’s some in camera crops of Colpoy’s Bay and the Niagara Escarpment at sunrise one morning.

I will start off with a wide view before cropping sections of the view using my zoom lenses.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: My Summer Space

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: My Summer Space.

As it’s now been weeks since Ontario closed parks and public places I am missing my early morning visits to the Colpoy’s Bay shoreline.

So I decided to go with a small selection of photos taken at the closest shoreline location to home. I also decided to go back six or seven years as there was lots of photos from that time frame that I had never used in a blog post. All the photos feature a sailboat that used to be moored on that section of Colpoy’s Bay at the time.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Silhouettes.

This is my contribution to the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Silhouettes.

I had a couple of ideas for the challenge, the first was a selection of silhouettes spanning the decades followed by a selection of bird silhouettes.

In the end I went with a selection of silhouettes from the South Bruce Peninsula over the past few years.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Overhead

This is my contribution to the Tuesday Photo Challenge – Overhead.

My first thought was looking up at trees followed by birds flying overhead.

Then I thought about some of the sunrises and sunsets where I used a wide angle lens to show of much of the sky as possible.
