Empty

This is my contribution to Debbie’s One Word Sunday prompt Empty.

Two empty bear resistant garbage cans on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada. The signs are to let the garbage truck operator know that they’re empty, not because the local Black Bears can read.

They’re bolted down to concrete pads to stop the bears flipping them over. The orange pole between them is to mark their location so the snow plough operator doesn’t hit them. Although it looks as if the plough has hit them in the past.

Numbers

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Numbers prompt.

A variety of numbers taken on a couple of recent walks around the neighborhood and edited various ways.

CBWC: Numbers
A warning sign on a propane storage tank. The entire sign is bright red but I just gave the flames a selective colour treatment.
CBWC: Numbers
Site 3 sign nailed to a tree on a campground. As the sign is old and faded I edited the photo to accentuate that and make it look like an old film shot.
CBWC: Numbers
5 A reflective civic address number for an empty lot in the bush. Used by emergency services to locate an address.
CBWC: Numbers
Lots of numbers on a utility pole. Anyone familiar with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will see the answer on this pole.

Red

Plus Read.

This is my contribution to the One Word Sunday prompt Red or Read.

I had a couple of ideas for the challenge but kept coming back to this image. It’s the Dollar Store in the town of Wiarton on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario.

I do wonder if anyone ever reads the signs other than the Dollar Store sign.

Does Anyone Read All These Signs?

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: Store Front Signs.

On reading the prompt I thought of this dollar store in a local town. So many signs, one is standing, propped up against a store window. Presumably waiting to be hung up somewhere.

Too Much Snow for a Early Crop

Monochrome Monday travels back a week or so. I had gone for a walk around the neighborhood looking for items listed on the recent Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Treasure Hunt.

In the end I went with a photo of a yellow bicycle in the snow for that challenge rather than this amusing sign which was another item on the list. But I thought that the sign would make an interesting monochrome conversion.

Signs in the Snow

This is my contribution to Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: All Sorts of Signs.

I find both these signs amusing in the winter. I gave them both a spot colour treatment for a splash of colour in the snow.

This warning sign of a 90 degree bend on a local back road is slightly deceiving. If you turn right you head towards the nearest town. Turning left takes you onto a narrow, dead end gravel road that may or may not be passable without a 4×4 due to snow drifts. Some years it also gets washed out during the spring thaw.

These No Parking signs on a utility pole must be so people don’t park on the chest high snow bank.
