Autumn tree trunks

A second shot from my Sunday morning walk during week 44. I was considering this as the pick for week and now I think I prefer this shot.

I was struck by the number of trees initially and then the pattern and complexity of them now that most of the leaves are off the branches.

Coneflower blooms

A shot from a walk last week. It has been a bad summer for a lot of plant species in the area. Winter dragged on well into spring and summer has been hot and very dry.

I noticed this small group of Coneflower blooms in the soft, evening light. The plant was much smaller than previous years.

Old barn in the evening

Having failed to get out for a sunrise in week 30 I took to some local back roads for the sunset mid week.

Despite some nice colour in the clouds to the west it was this old barn to the east that first caught my attention with the soft, evening light on it.

Eye level with a Chipmunk

A shot from a recent session in the yard using my ground pod to get down to eye level with the birds and mammals.

This Eastern Chipmunk was interested in the human lying in the grass while it searched for a few more seeds to stuff in its cheek pouches.

Spiky Raccoon

Saturday morning saw me wake up early enough to head out for a sunrise. It was raining so I went back to bed. It was still raining when I got up the second time so I decided to set up in the yard to photograph birds and mammals in the rain.

You can probably guess what happened, the rain stopped before I got any photos. I started photographing the usual species when a wet, bedraggled Raccoon walked out of the bush into the yard.

The spiked fur makes me think of Punk Rockers from the late 1970s.
