Motion and Movement

This is my contribution to Ann-Christine’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Weird and Wonderful prompt.

I had a few ideas for the challenge before realising that two of them involved motion blur and intentional camera movement.

So I decided to go with a small selection of motion blur and intentional camera movement shots.

One Word Sunday: Count

Intentional camera movement of trees on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario.

Throwback Thursday

Rum and Raisin at Sunset

Throwback Thursday is traveling back to the summer of 1985.

I spent part of that summer in Ontario shooting travel and nature for two British photo agencies. This is a sunset seen from the dock in Big Bay. Close to the dock there’s a general store that sold (and still sells as far as I know) homemade ice cream. I was eating rum and raisin ice cream while photographing the setting sun.

Monochrome Monday

Monochrome Monday: 18th May 2020

Monochrome Monday travels back to the Le Mans race circuit in France in the early 1980s as I continue the exploration of my black and white negative files.

This is Team Bike leaving the pits after a nighttime pit stop. Photographed from across the track I like the way the rider departing the pits and most of the pit crew are silhouetted with light on just one of the pit crew and the rider who just finished their stint.

Silver Birch Trees in Snow

Throwback Thursday travels back to Cheshire, England in the mid 1990s.

More specifically, Bickerton Hill, Cheshire after a snowfall. In this photo I am looking down onto Silver Birch trees at the base of a section of the hill.

Wiarton Village Fair fireworks

It was the Wiarton Village Fair over the weekend of week 31. So on the Sunday evening I went down to the dock at Colpoy’s Bay for the Village Fair fireworks.

The fireworks are launched from the public dock in the town of Wiarton. According to Google maps the two docks are 2.6 miles apart across Colpoy’s Bay.

For these fireworks I used a telephoto lens I purchased in the very early 1980s. I say very early because I remember using it at the Le Mans 24 hour motorcycle endurance race in April 1982. Between the camera and lens was a 1.4x teleconverter that I wasn’t sure would even fit on the back of the lens until I tried it shortly before the fireworks started.
