Fly Agaric

Flora and Fauna Friday: Fly Agaric

My Flora and Fauna Friday post this week is the Fly Agaric fungi (Amanita muscaria).

These two specimens were photographed on Bickerton Hill in southern Cheshire, England in autumn.

Taken shortly after sunrise in warm light. Unfortunately the slugs and snails had been eating them overnight so I tried to compose the photos to hide as much of the damage as possible.

Fungi Growing on a Tree Stump

It looks surprisingly healthy considering it was buried under snow until recently.

Red Daylily

Macro Monday this week is more of a close-up Monday.

I spotted this red Daylily on a walk yesterday morning. A neighbour has lots of Orange Daylilies growing along the road. This year there are also variegated yellow one’s and this small red one.

CFFC: Hats

This is my contribution to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Hats.

Except my contribution is the same “hat” photographed weeks apart with two different cameras and lenses. Also it’s more like a cap than a hat although it’s not really either.

Is it just me or does the plywood figure remind anyone else of Alfred Hitchcock?

Month of Squares

July Squares: Holly Blue Butterfly

A contribution to Becky’s July Squares: Blue photo challenge, day 30 of the 31 days of July.

With only two days left I decided to ignore the various blue birds, flowers and landscapes to go with another blue insect.

This is a Holly Blue Butterfly photographed on Holly in Hatherton, Cheshire, England.
