Cosmic Photo Challenge: Cosmically Circular/Cosmically Square!

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Cosmically Circular/Cosmically Square!

I considered this challenge for some time before deciding that my interpretation was going to be round things in the sky, cropped square. Simple.

A moon. Not the moon because we now know that there are other moons out there. Some with more dramatic names, Titan or Deimos, for example. Taken from the dock at Colpoy’s Bay on the South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario while waiting for the sun to rise.

A manmade circle in the sky. Wiarton Village Fair fireworks on the South Bruce Peninsula. Taken with a telephoto from a couple of miles away across the bay from the dock at Colpoy’s Bay. The same location as the moon photo.

A giant setting sun behind cloud. Taken with a telephoto lens at Little Quill Lake, Saskatchewan during autumn migration. The specks in the photo are distant wildfowl flying to roost.

Cosmic Photo Challenge: Night

This is my contribution to the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Night.

I had a few ideas for the challenge before deciding to go simple, the prompt is night so photos taken at night. I then decided on only two photos taken about 40 years apart.

Inside a graveyard at night, Wybunbury, Cheshire, England. Taken in the late 1970s when I was a photography student. Part of an art school project although after all these years I don’t remember the brief. I do remember getting permission to take them. Nowadays there would probably have to be a healthy and safety assessment before entering such a dangerous location at night.

Wiarton Village Fair fireworks. Taken one year ago today. This year’s fireworks will be going off in around 15 hours. You get an idea of how big some of these modern commercial fireworks are when you compare them to the lights on the fun fair rides on the horizon. The photo was taken from over two miles away across Colpoy’s Bay from the dock in the village of Colpoy’s Bay.

Nostalgia

My contribution to the A Photo a Week Challenge: Nostalgia.

Proving that the underwear matches the costume at a period fair (fayre probably) on the town square, Nantwich, Cheshire, England.

Nostalgia at the fair.

An old tractor competing in the Cheshire Ploughing Match in the 1980s.

Nostalgia at the ploughing match.

A final polish for the brass at the steam rally. I don’t know what health and safety would say about climbing up on the machine when there’s a fire in the firebox.

Fireworks in the Round

This week’s Wits End Weekly Photo Challenge is Round Things.

As usual I had a few ideas for the challenge before thinking of something completely unrelated to my original thoughts. I had the post finished before deleting it and reverting to one of my original ideas.

A variety of round fireworks at the Wiarton Village Fair taken from the dock in the village of Colpoy’s Bay. The dock is a couple of miles away from the fireworks across the bay.
