WWE #27: Shower Time

This is my contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere #27 Photo Challenge.

Two North American race Herring Gulls taking a shower while stood on a rock on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario. I’m calling them American race Herring Gulls because different authorities class them either as a subspecies of the European Herring Gull or as a separate species.

WWE #26: Range Light at Sunrise

This is my contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere #26 Photo Challenge.

First I should apologise to anyone who follows my Facebook page as they will have seen this photo a few days ago. I was looking for an early May photo for my Facebook page and discovered this completely overlooked shot.

This is the range light at the mouth of the Saugeen River on the Lake Huron shoreline in Southampton, Ontario. Taken 12 years ago in early May if I wanted to repeat the photo this year I would be up to my knees in water, the foreground rock is underwater nowadays.

This is a photo about the ripples and reflections on the water, the immature Double-crested Cormorant is just there to provide a sense of scale. Photographed on the Saugeen River, Bruce County, Ontario.

WWE #21: An Extreme View

This is my contribution to Jez Braithwaite’s Water Water Everywhere #21 photo challenge.

This is Colpoy’s Bay on the South Bruce Peninsula at sunrise. It is formed by a large loop in the Niagara Escarpment which runs up the eastern side of the Bruce Peninsula.

The reason I say it’s an extreme view is because it was taken with a fisheye lens although that’s not obvious because I kept the horizon running across the center of the frame. This avoids the curvature very often associated with fisheye lenses.

The horizontal angle of view through the center of the frame is 130 degrees, more than the human eye can comfortably take in without turning the head. This is shown by the mouth of bay being visible on the left side of the frame which is to the north east. On the right side of the frame is the remains of a row of wood piles sticking out of the water which are to the south east from where the photo was taken.
